The Diocese of Toledo is pleased to announce Dr. Vincent de Paul Schmidt as the new Senior Director of Catholic Education beginning August 1, 2017. Dr. Schmidt comes to the Toledo Diocese from his position as the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston in West Virginia. “I am so pleased that Vincent is coming to oversee Catholic Education in our Diocese,” Bishop Daniel E. Thomas of the Toledo Diocese said. “He has over 20 years of experience in Catholic education and is a proven results-oriented leader.” Dr. Schmidt is a former associate superintendent of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Missouri and has served in various other administrative capacities in Catholic schools within the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Missouri and the Belleville and Springfield Dioceses in Illinois for 19 years. He has served in roles such as director of academic affairs, school principal, and chief operating officer and has administrative experience at the high school, middle school and elementary school levels. A national keynote speaker on topics about special needs students and finance in Catholic schools, Dr. Schmidt was named the 2017 Edward M. Shaughnessy III national award recipient for Inclusion in Education by the National Catholic Education Association and Loyola Marymount University for his work with the Foundation for Inclusive Religious Education of West Virginia. The Senior Director of the Department of Catholic Education is responsible to provide leadership, direct supervision and manages the Catholic Education Department team. His leadership will promote and advance the Catholic identity, academic excellence, and ensure the vitality and viability of the Catholic schools. He will assist the Bishop of Toledo in his teaching mission by encouraging and supporting leaders of catechetical formation in the parishes and schools while overseeing the catechetical formation, from youth to adult formation, as well as care for home school families.
