HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) will offer a free 5-week career readiness course at its Center for Community Learning and Advancement (CCLA) in Huntington, W.Va. The course will begin Oct. 22 and is available for adults ages 18 years and over.

“We want to provide adult learners with what they need to succeed in the workplace,” said Megan Shoub, CCLA Adult Education Instructor. Shoub said the new free 5-week course will allow those in the tri-state area to gain skills that will help them both in the hiring process and on the job.

The class will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until noon, beginning Oct. 22. Participants will discover in-demand job opportunities, improve interview techniques, computer applications, math and writing skills, and customer service skills and ethics. Those who enroll will also earn three career certifications and complete the course with a professional resume and portfolio to share with potential employers.

“Learners will graduate from the course with an updated professional resume, certificates in customer service and work ethic principles, and a broader knowledge of the career options available to them,” Shoub said. Shoub said there are also options to pursue more certifications in customer service and digital skills. The course is open to anyone in the tri-state area.

“Anyone who is interested in brushing up on their skills is welcome to enroll, whether they are currently employed or looking for a job,” said Shoub.

The 5-week career readiness course will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. until noon at the CCLA at 901 5th Avenue in Huntington. The course will begin Oct. 22. Interested adults should register by Oct. 19 by calling (304) 650-3514.
