As the principal notary of the diocese, the Chancellor establishes the authenticity and validity of diocesan documents, the manner in which they are filed or managed, and the manner in which the documentation that is produced will be maintained, protected and secured. The Chancellor oversees day to day operations of Diocesan Services in conjunction with the Vicar General.
The Chancellor ensures that the administrative and judicial acts of the diocese are gathered, arranged, safeguareded and preserved in the diocesan archives. Among the administrative acts of the diocese are the sacramental records. Among the judicial acts of the diocese are the decisions that have been made in the Diocesan Tribunal.
