The Diocesan Archives is open by appointment only. Please make arrangements with the Diocesan Archivist before visiting.

The prime objective of the Office of Archives & Records is to serve the administrative needs of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, its people, institutions, and associations. Our staff identifies, collects, preserves, and makes accessible records of permanent and historical value, and assists diocesan entities in identifying and standardizing best practices in records management.

Additionally, we endeavor to promote a wider understanding of the Catholic Church in making some of our archival holdings accessible to the general public. Our holdings include administrative, legal, fiscal, and canonical records and unique materials that document the management, organization, and history of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, as well as records of other institutions, personal papers, and publications that document the history of the Catholic Church in West Virginia.
