Good Shepherd Mission, Glenville

Glenville, WV 26351, United States
Daily Mass and Holy Days as announced in bulletin
When Glenmary priest Bernard Quinn first came to Spencer in 1957, he envisioned a "mission center" for the small core of longtime Catholic residents, coal miners near Sand Fork, and students at Glenville State College. He celebrated the first Mass in Glenville on September 20, 1958 in the basement of a parishioner's house. In April 1961. Rev. Mert McMahon purchased property on Mineral Road for the future site of a church. One year later Rev. Edward Griffen of Blessed Sacrament Parish in South Charleston offered the community a small, prefabricated church building that his own parish had outgrown. Dismantled and transported to Glenville, the building was reconstructed and renovated into a worship space and parish hall by volunteers. Good Shepherd was dedicated on July 19, 1963.
