Lewisburg, St. Louis King of France Chapel

CLOSED
The first Catholic church in Greenbrier County was founded in Lewisburg (Immaculate Conception, founded 1853). After the parish relocated to Ronceverte in 1892, the community lacked a church until 1977 when St. Louis, King of France Mission, was founded. Economic development and the founding of the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg swelled the number of local Catholics. A house and barn were purchased for the community. The house was converted into a chapel, classrooms, and a residence for the Sisters of St. Joseph who established a catechetical center for rural religious education. Membership growth prompted renovation of the barn as the Chapel and Catechism Education Center, dedicated in 1985. St. Louis' was a chapel of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Ronceverte.
