History
Our Lady of Peace Parish was established in 1962, but plans for the church had begun nearly ten years before as the number of Catholics in the Mt. Olivet-Bethlehem area of Wheeling, continued to grow. Property was purchased in Mt. Olivet in 1961 and construction on the church began the following year. When the church was dedicated on June 10, 1962, it had the honor of being the 100th parish established in the Diocese. The parish school opened its doors in September 1962 and was staffed by the Marist Sisters, who administered the school until their withdrawal from the parish in 1984. The school continues to play a vital role in the life of the parish.
