History
Sacred Heart was established in 1951 to serve the Catholic families in the western part of Greenbrier County and parts of Nicholas and Fayette Counties. The families were organized into a community in the early 1940s, and Mass was said in the private homes of members until they began to meet at the Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in 1946. Property for a church was purchased in 1949, and construction began the following year. The church was dedicated on May 10, 1951, and continues to be used by the community today. Sacred Heart, Springdale, was a mission of Rainelle until it was suppressed in 1994.
