History

Until St. Mark the Evangelist Mission was formally organized in 1977, the Catholic families of Bartow gathered in the private homes of members and were visited by the priests at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Ronceverte. At this time, the community began to rent a former Methodist church for celebrating Mass. A church and property were purchased for the mission by the end of that year. Bishop Joseph H. Hodges dedicated the church on July 15, 1979. St. Mark's is a mission of St. John Neumann Parish, Marlinton.
