History

Until St. Vincent de Paul Parish was established in 1896, the Catholic families in Elm Grove attended Mass at Seven Dolors Mission, Triadelphia. The parish was founded not only to serve the families of Elm Grove and Triadelphia, but the children who had been placed in the Diocese's two orphanages, St. John's Home for Boys and St. Vincent's Home for Girls, which had been relocated to Elm Grove in 1894. In 1904, the parish was entrusted to the care of the Marist Fathers, beginning a long association with the Sisters of St Joseph, first in the orphanages, then in St. Vincent's school, and in later years as members of the pastoral team of the parish. The present church was dedicated on May 31, 1959.
