WHEELING, W.Va.—Rachel’s Vineyard, a retreat for post-abortion healing, will be held at St. Joseph’s Retreat Center in Wheeling, May 1-3, 2015.  The retreat is sponsored by Catholic Charities West Virginia. This spiritual retreat provides an opportunity for women and men suffering the pain and regret of abortion to experience healing and forgiveness; to share their stories, often for the first time, in a safe place and without judgment.  It allows them to acknowledge their unborn child and openly grieve the loss. “One of the most important aspects of moving through grief of an abortion,” said Tawnya Knierim, MSW, coordinator of Rachel’s Vineyard of West Virginia, “is identifying it and talking about it. The symptoms of sadness, depression, anger, guilt and shame that many women and men experience after an abortion, sometimes not manifesting until years later, are a form of unresolved grief.” The cost of the retreat is $125 per person and includes lodging, meals and materials. Partial scholarships are available and participation is confidential.
