Be a part of the WV Delegation for the NATIONAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS, Indianapolis, Indiana July 17-21, 2024

WV Faithful to be Part of the Revival

Will you be one of the 250 people to represent the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston at the National Eucharistic Revival in Indianapolis this summer?

Bishop Mark Brennan secured 250 five-day passes for the July 17-21, 2024, event at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. More than 80,000 Catholics from across the country are expected to attend the revival.

Hopefully by now you have heard about the opportunity through your pastor and the Eucharistic Revival point person in your parish. The Office of Worship and Sacraments has been working with them since October to get our delegation ready, emphasizing the importance of having all reaches of the diocese represented.

Registration for the travel package is now open to all official parishioners starting this weekend. The first 250 people from the diocese to sign up to be part of the WV delegation will receive a complimentary five-day pass for the national congress as a gift from the Church in WV.

These tickets are only available with purchase of the travel package through Corporate Travel (a Catholic pilgrimage company). See flyer inside this issue and available from your pastor/parish office for links and details.

The diocesan travel package includes bus transportation to Indianapolis, hotel, five-day pass to all the NEC events, and shuttle service each day from hotel to the venue. Cost is based on single or double room. Triple and quad are available to those who can coordinate/secure those. A deposit of $750 is due upon registration.

As Bishop Brennan has mentioned many times, the National Eucharistic Congress will be a life-changing experience for thousands of Catholics seeking an outpouring of grace, joy, hope, peace, unity, and meaning of Eucharistic faith. Additionally, the experience is a great investment for parish life.

“It is going to be invigorating to see the faithful of WV at the National Eucharistic Congress representing their local parishes,” he said. “I’m happy we are partnering with Corporate Travel, a Catholic company that specializes in Catholic pilgrimages, to ease the travel logistics burden for us.”

As Bishop Brennan has communicated to our priests, this is an opportunity for the whole parish to benefit from so, “I encourage parishes to work together to find ways to finance the travel package for participants. Ideas such as having a fish fry or spaghetti dinner or some other fundraiser….” With the help of their pastors and Eucharistic Revival point persons, delegates should also seek sponsorships from their Knights of Columbus, Ladies Guild, Rosary groups, etc., to help cover the travel package.

Can more than 250 people from the diocese attend? Yes! After the 250 passes are claimed anyone interested in attending will be responsible for the cost of the ticket ($360), as well as their own travel and accommodations.

Every day at the Congress is designed to facilitate a personal encounter with Christ. Attendees will select their preferred series of impact sessions for the morning and breakout sessions for the afternoon. Then, gathered together as one, the whole assembly will experience the powerful revival sessions in Lucas Oil Stadium each evening.

A summary of the event includes:

  • Liturgies – Mass celebrated in multiple rites and languages.
  • Breakout Sessions and Revival Sessions to give you hope, inspiration, and emphasis on God in your life, working through you.
  • Expo Hall – Apostolates, ministries, orders, publishers, and vendors of Catholic items to enrich your spirit.
  • Eucharistic Procession through downtown Indianapolis. (The monstrance that will be used was blessed by Pope Francis on June 19, 2023, in his words, to mark “a significant moment in the life of the Church in the United States.”)
  • Eucharistic Adoration.
  • Sacrament of Reconciliation opportunities.
  • Music and much more.

Prayer for Eucharistic Revival

Father in heaven,
you have made us for yourself;
our hearts are restless until they rest in you.
Fulfill this longing through Jesus, the Bread of Life,
whose sacramental Body
we receive in the Eucharist,
so that we may witness to him
who alone satisfies the hungers of the human family.
By the power of your Spirit
lead us to the heavenly table
where we may feast on the
vision of your glory for ever and ever. Amen.

The Real Presence – National Eucharistic Revival 2022-2025

“Believe what Christ said at the Last Supper, ‘This is my Body. This is my Blood!’” This has been Bishop Mark Brennan’s emboldening message to the faithful during his ministry.

Spanning from the 2022 Feast of Corpus Christi – the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ to Pentecost 2025 the faithful in the United States will celebrate the National Eucharistic Revival.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) outlined the mission of our three-year event as a renewal of “the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist.” The revival has four significant components:

  • Year of Diocesan Revival from June 19, 2022, to June 11, 2023 – diocesan events centered around Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist.
  • Year of Parish Revival from June 11, 2023, to July 17, 2024 – parishes will coordinate events for deeper encounters with Christ through Adoration, Mass, and enrichment.
  • National Eucharistic Congress Event set for July 17-21, 2024 –Catholics of all ages will gather in Indianapolis for a five-day conference to build enthusiasm among the faithful to be “eucharistic missionaries.”
  • National Year of Mission – July 17, 2024, to Pentecost of 2025 – all Catholics are encouraged to evangelize and be a light of Christ in the world.

This revival was developed by our US bishops after the USCCB June 2021 vote to focus on Christ’s true presence in the Eucharist – the source and summit of Christian life (Catechism of the Catholic Church no. 1324).

Parish Year of the Revival June 11, 2023 to July 17, 2024

Now It’s Your Moment!

Parish Year of the Eucharistic Revival

Now it’s your moment! Let your Parish Year of Eucharistic Revival be as author J.R.R. Tolkien said, “the cure for fainting faith.”

As our local parishes celebrate Corpus Christi Sunday with Mass, Eucharistic Processions, and Adoration this weekend, we begin the National Eucharistic Revival’s Parish Year through July 17, 2024. Each parish in the diocese, like all throughout the nation, will plan special Masses, catechism for all ages, Eucharistic Adoration, speakers, events, and projects all celebrating the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Christ.

Our priests have or will be selecting a leader(s) for this concentration to make up a Revival Team to brainstorm creative, effective, and practical initiatives tailored to your parish family.

Energized by our three diocesan Eucharistic Congresses, more than 600 faithful have celebrated that the Eucharist is nothing less than Jesus Christ in Person!

We genuflect. We kneel. We bow our heads, because we have so much devotion to our Risen Lord, who suffered and died for our sins.

The closest we get to heaven on this earth is through the Eucharist.

Be present with Him at Mass and Adoration.

The mission of the parish year is to make it perfectly clear that the bread and wine at Mass are not symbolic they transform into the Body and Blood of Christ nothing less.

There are four key invitations for the parish family to focus on:

  • Reinvigorating Worship – elevating minds and hearts
  • Personal Encounter – opportunities to personally encounter Christ in the Eucharist
  • Robust Faith Formation – large or small group “Jesus and the Eucharist”
  • Missionary Sending – invite people back, help those in need, and embrace being the Body of Christ.

The United State Conference of Catholic Bishops and our offices at the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston are eager to help each parish thrive in this mission to honor Christ’s Real Presence and the mission of the Church.

“A genuine belief in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist is essential to our Catholic faith,” Bishop Mark Brennan said at the final Diocesan Eucharistic Congress in Charleston. “The Eucharist is the strength we need to serve and to love.”
