On Wednesday, May 3, we informed you of the passing of Father Robert Park. We have subsequently learned of the manner in which he passed, that he took his own life.

I ask all the faithful of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to join me and my brother priests, deacons, and religious sisters and brothers in commending the soul of our brother, Reverend Robert Park to the Lord who alone judges our intentions and knows our struggles. While only God can discern the heart and mind of another, we do know that Father Park suffered from chronic pain and other physical ailments that tested his stamina and dampened his spirit. Let us remember and celebrate his long and devoted life of selfless service that gave joy and revealed the love of God to so many in our Diocese and beyond.

Please join me in praying for the repose of Father Park’s soul and, indeed, for the needs of all who face unbearable physical pain and struggle to face a new day. May our loving and merciful Lord who took on the suffering of us all that we might be redeemed abide with them, grant them courage and strength, and sustain their hope.
