HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Catholic Charities West Virginia (CCWVa) in Huntington will hold its first Kentucky Derby Party on Saturday, May 4 from 3:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus.

“The Kentucky Derby Party is not only a place for people to come together in fun and fellowship, it also provides an opportunity for people to support and learn more about the programs and services provided in the Western Region,” said Emily Robinson, (CCWVa) Western Regional Director.

Funds raised through the Derby Party will support the programs and services that Catholic Charities Western Region provides. “The Western Region provides a broad spectrum of services from emergency utility termination assistance, to food pantries, to adult learning, and case management services,” said Robinson. “The region also hosts several state-wide programs including Disaster Services, Immigration and Refugee Program, and Homecare services.”

The Kentucky Derby Party will offer an action packed day of events. There will be a hat contest for cash prizes of $250, $150 and $100, plus a 50/50 Raffle, derby games for cash prizes, a 55” Ultra HD TV giveaway, a silent auction and a bourbon tastings. Live music will be provided by the sounds of the Oakwood Road Band and your ticket includes food and two free drinks.

“Catholic Charities West Virginia’s first ever Kentucky Derby Party fundraiser in Huntington will be a wonderful opportunity for the community to learn first-hand about the numerous services provided by our organization to all citizens of our region, no matter their background. Our only question to potential clients is “How can we help you?” said Kentucky Derby committee member Jim Hoffman.

“Huntington is the home of a unique learning center that is designed to assist, guide and mentor clients to obtain skills necessary to move out of poverty. In addition to learning more about Catholic Charities WV, party goers will have a chance to enjoy food and drinks, games of chance, watch the Kentucky Derby and enjoy the music of the Oakwood Road Band. Come have a great time.”

Tickets are $25 in advance or at the door. Game tokens will be available for purchase at the event. For more information about the Kentucky Derby Party, call the Western Region offices at 304-380-0162 or email Emily Robinson at For more information about Catholic Charities WV, visit
