History

Founded as St. Joseph, the Guardian of the Holy Family, the church traces its origin to 1899, when Calvin Amos was sent by a lumber company to a mill in Richwood, Randolph County. His wife, who joined him in 1900, was the first known Catholic in the area. Mr. R. M. Dyer donated property in 1905 for a church and was dedicated by Bishop Donahue on August 26, 1906. A school operated from 1900 to 1969.
