I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and may we look forward to 2015 to be a blessed year of growing ever closer to the Lord Jesus! Yesterday’s celebration of Epiphany made me truly feel like I was imitating the three wise men following the star … only problem was … part of my navigational star (the GPS part of discerning God’s will and using GPS to get there) was left at my mother’s house when I headed back to Wheeling so I had to rely on other means for direction – especially after I was listening to a presentation on the Gospel of Mark on my radio and seemed to travel almost two hours beyond my exit (it was a good presentation). Realizing I was way off path without the GPS’ lady’s voice telling me to exit – and recalculating when I didn’t – I used my cell phone to find little country roads to move me from Route 80 near the top of PA to Route 70 near the bottom of Pa to head toward Wheeling. I went up hills, down hills, around sharp turns … in fog, rain, and snow. I kept thinking of the wise men and their determination to find the baby Jesus to pay him homage and I was inspired. I even tried to make up another verse of We Three Kings to add my experience to the song, along with my desire, to offer my humble gifts to the New Born King. Finally, after a whole afternoon, evening, and night of travel, I made it back … with a new appreciation and lived experience of the human heart’s desire and need to find the Lord Jesus. It did my heart good to experience that and to see many houses along the way decorated with Christmas Lights – they were a Light in the darkness as is the Newborn King.
