Safe Environment Compliance Letters

In accordance with the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston is regularly audited for Safe Environment compliance. There are two audit tracks: data collection and on-site. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) mandates yearly data collection audits. The USCCB mandates on-site audits every three years.

With the exception of its very first year, the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston has remained in compliance since the inception of its Safe Environment program in 2005. Letters from 2005 to 2014 are not preserved electronically. However, compliance letters from 2015 to the present are available here for review.

Please note that starting in 2022, the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston has voluntarily elected to be on-site audited on a yearly basis as opposed to a three-year basis.

Compliance letters denote on-site audit versus data collection audit.
